Vancouver Cruise Terminal Sets Pace for Record-Breaking Year in 2024

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s mid-year 2024 statistics reveal that the Port of Vancouver is on track for yet another record-breaking year, fueled by an impressive surge in cruise passenger numbers, according to a recent press release.

Between March and June 30, 2024, the Canada Place cruise terminal welcomed a total of 554,546 passengers—a 13% increase over last year’s mid-year record of 490,119 passengers.

“Cruise continues to thrive in Vancouver, and this success speaks to both the dedication of our local industry and the natural beauty of our region,” said Peter Xotta, President and CEO of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.

As a key homeport for the Alaska cruise season, Vancouver plays a pivotal role in spreading economic benefits across the region. From local food and beverage suppliers to ship fuel and repair services, the ripple effect extends to downtown restaurants and hotels, Xotta added.

On April 29, Canada Place cruise terminal recorded its second busiest day ever, with nearly 20,000 passengers passing through. In fact, five of the terminal’s top 10 busiest days occurred in April, May, and June of this year. To further streamline operations, the port authority introduced facial biometric technology in June, in partnership with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. This enhancement has helped boost efficiency, security, and overall passenger experience at the terminal.

With such robust growth in 2024, Vancouver’s cruise industry is clearly sailing toward a new milestone.
